Apple Releases Finalized iOS 6.1 Beta 5 Prior to An UnTethered iOS 6 Jailbreak
Apple Releases Finalized iOS 6.1 Beta 5 Prior to An UnTethered Evasi0n iOS Jailbreak - In a rather peculiar weekend update, yesterday, just two days before iOS 6.1 beta 4 is set to expire on January 28th, Apple has issued iOS 6.1 beta 5 to developers. The new beta comes as a mild surprise, considering most were expecting Apple to seed the GM (Gold Master) edition of iOS 6.1 – GM versions typically precede final releases.
In fact, iOS 6.1 beta 5 isn’t technically a beta at all. As stated by i0n1c, a popular iOS security expert who’s contributed to the development of numerous jailbreak utilities in the past, the build carries identification similar to that of a finalized version, not that of a beta.
iOS 6.1 beta 5, an UnTethered Jailbreak is Coming
What’s more, MuscleNerd retweeted an interesting tweet from @winocm, declaring that the fifth beta of iOS 6.1 actually registers without the need to have an iOS-based device’s UDID (unique device identifier) registered through an Apple developer account and it doesn’t contain lockdown keys. In other words, unlike typical beta firmware, iOS 6.1 beta 5 doesn’t expire.
Looks like iOS 6.1b5 isn’t a beta, it activates without developer registration and has no ReleaseType lockdown keys.

Following his retweet, MuscleNerd sent out another update that’s rather amazing for those of us who are waiting for an UnTethered iOS 6 jailbreak.
In spite of the latest developer firmware’s “beta” denomination, it’s actually releasable as a public version of 6.1 at Apple’s discretion.
Despite the odd beta naming, as @winocm discovered, this is actually releaseable as public 6.1 at Apple’s will.Good!Home stretch….

Of course, because this is technically the finalized iteration of 6.1, the iOS security experts who have been actively developing an iOS 6+ UnTethered jailbreak can continue their work as if 6.1 beta 5 is the public version. Furthermore, this indicated that Apple is gearing up to officially release the firmware presently, which in turn will result in a public iOS 6 jailbreak utility shortly thereafter.
