Jailbreak 6.1.3 iOS Semi UnTethered on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G with Redsn0w – Following Apple’s release of iOS 6.1.3 today, a popular jailbreak tutorial YouTuber named iCrackUriDevice published an updated semi UnTethered jailbreak guide for the new firmware using a simple RedSn0w workaround. Unfortunately, because the Untethered exploits employed by Evasion are patched in iOS 6.1.3, this jailbreak remains exclusive to A4-powered devices and is Tethered by default, which we’ll explain later. If you own a newer iDevice on a previous version of iOS 6, including 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.1 and 6.1.2, we strongly advise following our evasi0n jailbreak tutorial, as it includes untethered support for all devices.
As mentioned above, the Redsn0w Jailbreak is compatible with, and can jailbreak, the following iPhone and iPod touch models running iOS 6.1.3.
- iPhone 4 (both GSM and CMDA models)
- iPhone 3GS
- iPod touch 4th generation
While the following newer iDevices are incompatible with this 6.1.3 jailbreak, they are still able to be jailbroken on all previous versions of iOS 6, even 6.1.2, using evasion.
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 4S
- iPad mini
- iPod touch 5th generation
- iPad 4 powered by Apple’s A6X chip and Retina display
- iPad 3
- iPad 2
Furthermore, even though it’s possible to use redsn0w on 6.1.3, iPhone and iPod touch owners will only be able to jailbreak using what’s referred to as a “Tethered Jailbreak”. Consequently, devices jailbroken using this method will require Redsnow to boot into their fully jailbroken state every time they power off. However, it is possible to install what’s known as a semi Tethered or a Semi UnTethered jailbreak on iOS 6.1.3 after completing this tutorial. This will allow the iPhone or iPod touch to reboot without the assistance of a computer with limited functionality. If you’ve previously jailbroken using a tethered version of redsn0w, jailbreaking 6.1.3 should be easy for you.
Now that you know the limitations of Redsn0w, to be immediately notified on any and all news pertaining to the status of the UnTethered evasion jailbreak for newer firmwares like 6.1.3, subscribe to our official iOS 6.1.3 UnTethered feed.
Important Jailbreak Prerequisite
Before continuing with this semi Untethered jailbreak tutorial, ensure that you have the following:
- An older iDevice (remember, only the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the iPod touch 4G are supported) running the latest iOS 6.1.3 firmware from Apple.
- The RedSnow 0.9.15b3 jailbreak utility and your device’s corresponding 6.0 firmware file.
Additionally, while mentioned above, it’s worth reiterating that this is a Tethered jailbreak, which requires additional effort on your part and doesn’t support newer iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models. If at all possible, we recommend staying on a lower iOS 6 firmware and jailbreaking with evasion – iOS 6.1.2 is ideal because it’s the latest firmware supported by evasi0n.
How to Jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 Semi UnTethered Using Redsn0w
Step 1: Download Redsn0w from our download section, which is linked below, to ensure that you have an authentic version of the tool.
Step 2: Once Redsnow has been successfully downloaded, if you’re on Windows, right click the utility, set compatibility mode to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and grant the program administrative privileges. Mac users needn’t worry about compatibility, as practically all versions of OS X can use the utility immediately after downloading it.
Step 3: Run Redsn0w and click Extras, followed by Select IPSW. In the pop-up window, simply point Redsnow at the iOS 6.0 IPSW, not 6.1.3. After the firmware has been successfully identified, click the Back button to return to the main Redsn0w menu.
Step 4: Click the Jailbreak button, ensure that the option to, Install Cydia was checked by default and continue to the next screen. At this point, Redsn0w suggests turning your device off to enter DFU mode, although it’s possible to bypass this stage of the jailbreak entirely by entering DFU mode ahead of time.
Step 5: To enter Device Firmware Update mode, simply connect your iPhone or iPod touch via a standard 30-pin USB cable, press and hold both the home and power buttons for a total of ten seconds. Once ten seconds has passed, release the power button and continue to hold the home button for an additional ten to fifteen seconds.
Step 6: If you’ve entered DFU mode correctly, Redsnow will automatically proceed. Simply wait for the process to complete and for your jailbroken device to reboot, after it has, you’ll need to boot Tethered.
How to Boot iOS 6.1.3 Tethered iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4th Gen
As previously mentioned, you’ll be required to boot tethered for Cydia to appear and every time you need to reboot your iPhone or iPod. To boot Tethered, simply open RedSn0w, click Extras, followed by Select IPSW, point the RedSn0w window at the iOS 6.0 IPSW and select the option to Just Boot.
When you arrive at the stage that requires your device to enter DFU mode, follow the procedure outlined in the fifth step of this tutorial.

After you jailbreak, go back to the extras in Redsn0w and “select ipsw” again. Then select “Just Boot”. When the phone boots Cydia should be there.
When Cydia has the updates for the first time, I suggest updating them one at a time. Every time I updated them all together it messed up and would just hang during reboot.
Every ios6 I download for ipod 4 is not an ipsw but several files and a folder named firmware with no firmware in it. I have downloaded from several pages I have used before for iphone.
Well, I guess I am the only one that has ever had this problem. I have jailbroke many iPhones without a hitch, but there is nothing in the ipod download that REdsnow can use.
OK, finally got it. I had to install Firefox and do the download. Now it stalls during the jailbreak “waiting for reboot” with no activity at all on the ipod.

have discovered an untethered jailbreak for 3gs on 6.1.3. i have tried it on 2 iphones and it has worked both times. i stumbled on it by accident but would be grateful if one of you could email me and try it out just to make sure i have not made a mistake. i have turned the phones on and off several times and cydia opens without a prob everytime.

i have contacted the sites admin to see if they can try it first and then post it here if it is a working jailbreak. i use an iphone 4 so have no sim to see if calls can be made on the 3gs phones after the jailbreak. i will leave it to better men than me to check it out and put it up here if its a fully working untethered jailbreak. i dont want to try it on my iphone 4 as i would honestly cry if it did anything to it.

Try a reset of your iphone (hold power and home button end release BOTH when screen turns off). Then start Jailbreaking at step 1. Shuld work now. Had the same problem and solved it like this. Maybe its even better to let the phone comepletely boot before turning in DFU mode again.

I followed all the steps and jailbroke my iPod 4G running IOS 6.1.3.I opened Cydia and opened sources like u said and added the source.The source was installed and then i installed semi tether but when it was installing an error occured and it said “Size mismatch” then i returned back to cydia.Ive been trying to install sources but this happens.I jailbroke my iPod two times now and this has been happening when I first jailbroke using this? method.Its been 4 months.Please help!!!

Okay, I’m getting tired of this. Every single time I jailbreak, my itouch 4th gen gets stuck in DFU mode after a couple of hours and I have to restore again. I can’t enter DFU regularly because my buttons are broken so I have to DFU my ipsw. However, DFUing the ipsw means that it corrupts the ipsw, tricking it to enter DFU. But after jailbreaking, the ipsw doesn’t seem corrupt, even though it is still. Meaning after a while, I get back into a DFU lock and I boot tethered through the computer. After I boot tethered, my device makes the usual charging noise and the screen turns on, however the screen remains a gray-ish color and I have to restore and jailbreak all over again. Is there any other way to enter DFU mode with broken buttons without having to mess up my software?

I followed the instructions correct.. tried to do it almost 50x.. the instructions is not that hard to follow.. watched the video do precisely what it said. first select the ipsw 6.0 then jailbreak after that just boot but select the ipsw 6.0 first.. then its running and the pineapple logo appears but after that it would be stuck on the apple logo for hours, nothing is happenning..
I got the pineapple screen but when I went to finalize the jb in my iPhone 4 gsm iOS 6.1.3 I get an error about my shsh blobs!!!

Just found out the real problem! If you update Cydia after the untethered jailbreak, you break something. It has nothing to do with choosing the 6.0 firmware. My device was working fine with this jailbreak until Cydia cried out to update 3 of its files. After I updated them I got the “”missing keys. plist data for this build:” error and could no longer use this jailbreak method. Had to restore back to stock.
Furthermore, even after I restored to factory 6.1.3 in itunes and tried to jailbreak again fresh, got the same error. ” missing keys. plist data for this build:” Now I can no longer perform this untethered jailbreak at all.
It gets better!! Now I can’t even restore back to stock in itunes. My iphone IS BRICKED.
Ok, got itunes to restore back to stock. Had to download 6.1.3 from apple servers instead of using the 6.1.3 download from loserland. Lesson learned, don’t load childish garbage jailbreak toys from inexperienced programmers. A serious FU shout out to those programmers who almost bricked my iphone!…lol GOOD BYEE!!!!

After installing cydia, will ask you to update 3 packs. After hours of trial and error, I discovered that the package pcre cause is failure. not to update that shit.

I have successfully done this jailbreak on two 16gb iphone 3gs phones. However both phones randomly shut of, which is obviously annoying as the unlock I did with ultrasn0w won’t work until I use just boot again. Anyone else had random shut offs?
Random shut offs often are a symptom of a dying battery. Have either of these 3GS’s had their battery changed?

Never mind, after reading another website I had to change the file extension from .zip to .ipsw and it read it. Wish that was in the instructions. Now can seem to get the iPhone 3GS to boot into DFU mode in step 5 above. Keep getting dam ITunes logo to connect to iTunes. Any suggestions???

I had jailbroke my sister’s iPhone 3gs back when it was in 6.0.1, earlier this weeks she found it would be a great idea to upgrade to 6.1.3 via Itunes… Of course the phone was locked, I spend hours on it and finally jailbroke it and restore.
It worked for a day or so, now the phone is stuck on the apple logo, I tried for the all day to fix it… I haven’t found anything that worked.
I do not intend to spend my all week on her phone for an update…
I’d like to restore it, but I’m missing the shsh that haven’t been saved, do anyone knows where I could download one?

I don’t like the fact that if I run out of battery I have to use a computer to boot my Iphone and be able to use cydia and safari. I mean I do not carry a laptop with me all the time. I am just wondering if there is a tweak which can freeze the phone when battery is 20%, the screen stays Black, All running apps get terminated, CPU and GPU is on absolute minimum. When the IPhone gets charge over %20, screen unfreezes, and lights back and everything works as it should. I would pay for such a teak as it would be very useful for any Tethered Jailbroken Iphone. I guess that at %20 Battery charge, the phone survives up to 7 or 8hours (with minim power consumption) Which is enough time to look for a charger and get it charged before, the battery is flat.
I suggest you get an external support battery for backup power. Look on Amazon, they have a ton.

I’m having some issues. I am on 6.1.3 on an iPhone 4. I went through the steps but when it came to the part of my iPhone doing the rest of the jailbreaking all I saw was “please wait” scrolling down forever and then the apple logo. I never saw a pineapple. Anyway so then I go to boot tethered (I selected the IPSW 6.0 again) and when I boot it it just says “exploit failed”. What am I doing wrong??

ok i do all the steps right and when i get to where the pineapple is on my device’s screen it doesnt finish the stuff its doing and after a few seconds it goes to the apple and turns on. no cydia shows up or anything.. i also tried the just boot and still nothing. ive tried over and over and over again and it wont work!!! i just bought ipad mini last three weeks, and i quickly jailbreak it. i was so happy that i downloaded many things from cydia. suddenly my ipad dead. it won’t open, its stuck with the apple logo. ive use all the method shown on the internet and my last one was to restore it and it was updated to the latest 6.1.3 version. i’ll do anything for my ipad mini to have a jailbreak. included wasted my money on the fake icysn0w. now my ipad mini was left behind. the reason i bought it was to use cydia, but now the excitement gone. its fun although it only last for a day

Here is the ODD part for me. I tried this Jail Break on an old iPhone 3GS that the previous owner already upgraded to 6.13. I went through the steps as outlined, only on my 3GS – RedSn0w had an additional prompt if I had the new BootRom or the Old. Looking at their instructions, I checked the serial number of my device, and the key digits were 36, meaning it was the older BootRom. So I answered NO it was not the new BootRom, and continued along with the Video.
Unlike the instructions above, after reboot the video said it was important to close and relaunch RedSn0w, then choose the the IOS 6.0 firmware file again, and then use the “Just Boot” option and DFU mode, which I did. I waited and eventually RedSnoW reported “Exploited Failed” and the device seemed stuck on the Apple Boot screen. After a few minutes, I unplugged the USB cable and almost forced the device off. Glad I didn’t!
I waited a little longer and the device came back up. I figured I had a limited device and would need restored, but much to my surprise it was in fact Jail Broken, and Cydia and all other applications worked fine.
Now the really ODD thing, is this seems to have resulted in a Non Tethered JB. I can turn the device completely off and on and the JB is still in place without a computer, Cydia and all applications still work perfectly.
Perhaps a bug or sequencing issue? Either way, I am very happy!
its because you have the old bootrom, 3gs’ with old bootroms are the best as they can be exploited much easier than new bootrom, also i think they can be unlocked easier although all 3g and most 3gs’ can be unlocked very easily when jailbroken since ipad baseband downgrade from 06.15.00 to 05.13.04 became available.. I have an iPod touch 4g running ios 6.1.3. I accidentally upgraded my software from 6.1.2 to 6.1.3, I had my iPod jail broken before I updated. I follow the steps to a Tee. But when jail breaking, it shows the pineapple, and a little bar underneath it showing progress from, installing cydia, to moving applications and all of that. It is supposed to take like 5 minutes for that process, but when I do it, it goes straight from Installing Cydia, to rebooting, and skips moving apps and the other things. Try opening safari, if it crashes or doesn’t work the jailbreak did go through. Try booting it regularly just turn your idevice off then on again. Then try “just boot” make sure you select ispw before “just boot”.

1 wait until the device is out of power,
2 get your restore file ready
3 put your device in recovery mode. if you dont know how to get in recovery mode, go check on youtube.
4 use itunes to restore. if u dont know how to restore, go on youtube and check.

it works Perfectly without a flaw. It worked on my iPhone 4(IOS 6.1.3) using the 6.0 ISPW for the jailbreak and the just boot. Just follow the tutorials, then it should work fine. 1.Open cydia and let it complete loading
2.Go to ‘Changes’ page (bottom middle of cydia)
3.Tap ‘Refresh’ in the top-left corner
4.Wait for cydia to finish loading. If you get an error, tap refresh again.
5.Tap search, find and install ‘ultrasn0w’ (it’s zero, not capital o’s)

followed the instructions correct.. tried to do it almost 50x.. the instructions is not that hard to follow.. watched the video do precisely what it said. first select the ipsw 6.0 then jailbreak after that just boot but select the ipsw 6.0 first.. then its running and the pineapple logo appear but after that it would be stuck on the apple logo for hours, nothing is happenning..

You might have not gone into DFU mode correctly, make sure on the last step you hold the home button down for at least 10 seconds even if the load screen appears

You’ll want to choose windows, when you have an option to download a file for mac vs a file for windows, it isn’t referring to the web browser you’re using, it’s referring to your operating system (xp, vista, windows 7, etc for windows and os x for mac)
So if you have a windows computer or a computer RUNNING a windows operating system, you’ll want the windows download.

Having problems with the rebooting part. I go with the jailbreak process, it works just fine, but Cydia doesn’t appear. Redsn0w tells me to reboot my device via redsn0w (like a regular untethered boot) so I assumed that is why Cydia doesn’t appear. When I do try to reboot, it doesn’t go into DFU mode, and goes straight to recovery mode. I do all the steps correctly, though at the last one, I’m supposed to hold the home button for 10-15 seconds, it goes into recovery mode in just 7-8 seconds!
Please, do help me with this dilemma, I have an iPhone 4 GSM running 6.1.3.

Never mind, fixed the problem. What I did miss was the fact I should close, then re-open redsn0w before rebooting. Don’t make the same mistake I did

everytime I download the ipsw file its zipped, I changed the name to end in .ipsw like it says but it doesn’t help, tried extracting the files but that doesn’t help either…when i click “select ipsw” it pops up the folder but when i click it it opens and says “firmware” which will lead me to three more folders which all end in dead ends there’s no ipsw file in the download

did you select to “show file extension” in windows? If yes, all your files should be showing what extension they have (type of file) like .zip at the end. That’s when you can change the file extension to .ipsw, otherwise all it does is changing it into .ipsw.zip which is no good.

hi mate, as ipsw, you have to select ios6.0 not 6.1.3 and don’t forget you have to restart with Just Boot tethered after you finish. I just finished mine now.

you have to see where you downloaded the .ipsw file mate.
if you don’t know where it is, it’s probably in your “downloads” folder or look it up in your start/search.

ok so I think what was wrong was that I had the wrong IPSW installed, but now it lets me complete the process, but there is no cydia, I’ll keep playing around with it, but if anyone knows exactly whats wrong I would appreciate the help.
hi Montana, I know this might sound silly, but do you have “install cydia” ticked when you carried out the jailbreak. If yes, are you rebooting with “Just Boot”?

Hello – I am having a problem rebooting. I did everything right, including running as admin and connecting the iphone 4 to the computer before turning off and entering DFU mode…redsn0w continues as it does in the video but the device never reboots. the screen changes from black to very dark blue, so I know it is active, or at least not off, but nothing happens. any tips? i’ve tried twice now and let it wait for 10 minutes each time. I am still able to boot into the phone and use everything as normal…thank you!

I had the same issue as yours on iPhone 4.
Use redsn0w_win_0.9.15b2. “beta 2 version” instead of “redsn0w_win_0.9.15b3″. It will work. For some odd reason it is not working on the latest version of redsn0w.
Also try changing USB ports. That helped.

You can’t downgrade. You’re stuck on 6.1.3 and can only wait for a new jailbreak.
well, you still have the phone jailbroken but tethered as the thread says

Whenever i try to jailbreak my ipod it says mplink thingy is missing, so it won’t work. i’m now trying to do it on an other computer.
It won’t matter what computer you try it on. You need to follow the video and download the firmware file for your iPod. If its a 4th gen iPod 6.1.3, google that and download the file. Put it on your desktop. Open Redsn0w > Extras > select IPSW > Select the file you just downloaded > press OK. Go back to the first page of redsn0w and press jailbreak. You’re all set. You need to specify what device and what software by “selecting ipsw” otherwise it will say something is missing.
Hi not sure what’s wrong but I’m OK until everything is unpacked then it starts the process but just before it gets the next stage I error message saying process failed I’ve tried it a few times with the same result.
Anyone got any ideas?

Hello, I have put a couple replies on here looking for a little help.
I have done everything i can to get this to work with no avail.
first tried jailbreaking on a pc and got stuck on “please Wait”.I restored my phone completely then I used a friends MAC and tried the jailbreak again. It gets to the first and second stage the goes to the scrolling “please wait” and gets stuck after saying something about failed partitions or something along those lines. I want this jailbreak so bad, is there any help at all?

the problem is because you only click on jailbreak. When you fire up Redsnow, you have to go to extras->select ipsw-> browse the 6.0 ipsw it will display a message that the firmware has been identified and compatible. then go back and click on jailbreak.
you have to select the 6.0 ipsw so Redsnow can jailbreak your device running ios 6.X – 6.1.3

The problem is with your ipsw, redsnow is for now only compatible with ios 6.0 and earlier. you have to select the “6.0″ ipsw and not 6.0.1

Hey I did EXACTLY what the video told me to do, but my device simply wont go into DFU mode. I held down the power and the home button for ten seconds, only after turning it off, and then let go of the power button and held onto the home button for 15 more seconds. It went into recovery mode. I got it out of recovery mode, but it WILL NOT go into DFU mode. I did EXACTLY what the tutorial told me to do. any suggestions?
Hold power button for 3 seconds, hold power and home for 10 secs, release power and hold home for 3 secs.
make sure iphone is off before you do so.
I’m trying to do this on an iPhone 4 on 6.1.3, and at first I thought I was stuck on the “please wait…” scroll, but eventually that finished, but the problem is when I have to “just boot”. I’m stuck at the pineapple logo, not the running one, just the tiny pineapple on a black screen. What do I do?
Well, now that it actually finished, when it boots up Cydia is not there.
Make sure you reboot tethered (Just Boot option) in redsn0w. Otherwise, cydia won’t be there.

I have the exact same problem, except that after a long period of time, the pineapple disappears and it goes back to recovery mode. Using an iPhone 4, 6.1.3 IOS.
I have done all above and used cydia to hack so i can use a ’3′ sim in my orange (EE) phone, but now have no signal. How do i get service (signal) back?

I’ve downloaded both 3,1_6.0 and 4,1_6.0, (the latter not being supported by redsn0w) and each time after I select the ipsw in redsn0w the jailbreak option is unselectable.. for lack of a better word. I’ve made sure to use the latest version of redsn0w (redsn0w 0.9.15b3) and still no luck. Anyone else with this issue? Any advice

You can try closing Redsn0w, rebooting your device, changing USB ports, setting compatibility mode for Redsn0w to Windows XP SP2 and run as admin if you’re on Windows Vista, 7 or 8!

How exactly is this SEMI-Untethered? Seems pretty tethered too mee and ive been around for awhile.
The difference between Tethered, Untethered and Semi Tethered or Semi Untethered is explained at length in our latest Jailbreak 6.1.3 Q&A post.
it just means you can boot untethered into normal mode without cydia… sometimes its helpful to read instructions and information.

Yes it’s correct. The first iPhone is “1,1″, the 3G is “1,2″ and the 3GS is “2,1″. Don’t pay any attention to the numbers. If it’s on here, its right.
